This Note focuses on the general aspects of the practice applied by CCAM countries regarding their fiscal reporting with respect to their national concepts and international statistical standards (ISS). The aim of the note is to: i. describe the main concepts of fiscal indicators based on the ISS; ii. analyze the current practices of measuring fiscal deficit reporting by CCAM countries and illustrate the main differences between nationally-based fiscal reporting and the GFS; iii. suggest ways to enhance the alignment of countries’ reporting with ISS. This Regional Note presents an overview of the international standards for GFS and PSDS, describes the recent progress and main gaps in CCAM countries, and summarizes the priorities and next steps toward high quality GFS and PSDS to support decision-making and improve international comparability of fiscal data. The Note offers insights on fiscal statistics in the CCAM region from various points of view: i) Institutional Environment, ii) Data compilation, and iii) Data Coverage and Dissemination practices.
